WHAT THEY SAY
In 1881 Francesco Antonelli, a lawyer from Spoleto, bought the estate which had belonged to the Archbishop for the previous 600 years. It is still family run today. The entire estate comprises 170 ha of land in the Montefalco DOC appellation area, 40 of which are devoted to vineyards, the rest is covered with olive trees and farmland. The hilly area is an ideal microclimate for vineyards. The vineyards are planted on slopes with an average altitude of 350 m. The terroir is clay based and rich in limestone deposits, dating from different geological periods: some parts are very deep, other parts very rich in fossils, both giving the wine intensity and complexity.
WHAT WE SAY
The aim is to enhance the true expression of our indigenous genotypes through the study of specific terroirs of their land. A quest through the terroir in order to preserve the traditional craft viticulture and protect the real varietal taste
WHAT OTHERS SAY
Filippo Antonelli’s wines resemble their maker: elegant, complex, and with an intriguing personality. The wines never display excessive extract but good balance with the oak in which they age, and interesting development over time – Gambero Rosso
