WHAT THEY SAY

It all began in the Forties when Umberto Ceci bought a small Estate with one existing vineyard in contrada Battinebbia (Jesi). Since then 4 generations have been involved in the running the property. Over the last 70 years, the hectares under vine have grown and so has the attention to the detail in the winemaking, the quality of the fruit that they grow and the continuous search for a more sustainable and technologically advanced way of production. One thing has not changed, the deep love and dedication of every single member of the family to this land.

WHAT WE SAY

A while back, I was asked why I did not have a Verdicchio producer in our portfolio. The simple answer is that for one reason or another I never found the right estate. Having spent part of my childhood not far from Jesi and my particular love for this variety it was time I started looking harder - and here we are! A great range of classic but contemporary wines, where the natural acidity of the variety is used to give a beautiful lift to each bottle and the capacity to evolve for several years. Juicy, elegant wines which truly expressed the value of this often-undervalued grape.

WHAT OTHERS SAY

Founded in the late 1940s by Umberto Ceci on a small plot of land in San Paolo di Jesi, Vignamato is now run by third-generation Maurizio and his wife Serenella with children Alessandra, Andrea and Francesco. Fruit for Ambrosia is grown on 2.5ha of clay soils, northeast-facing at 250m, soft-pressed and fermented 60% in stainless steel, 40% in barriques, where it remains for 12-14 months. AH Nutty, complex characters on the palate with vibrant acidity still keeping everything fresh and appetising. Good concentration, sweet, ripe fruit but the palate is not at all cloying. A highly intriguing and individual wine. SB Good concentration, rich and generous. Baked apple, peach and citrus flavours, a hint of honey and dried apricot. Clean and long finish. MG Full, buttery nose of some development: ripe pineapple and aromatic herbs. Full, rich, ripe and juicy with exuberant style. Balanced, with good intensity and impressive length. 96 points, Decanter Panel Tasting, Andy Howard MW, Sara Bachiorri, Michael Garner
