WHAT THEY SAY

Brigaldara's relationship with Valpolicella does not end with winemaking. It is the reinstatement of an ancient and visionary bond with its terroir. The retrieval of an organic dimension. The act of cultivating the land bearing in mind the importance of sustainability and of the natural synergies that take place in a balanced ecosystem.

WHAT WE SAY

Having named the company with the geographic coordinates of the Valpolicella (broadly speaking) in my mind it justifies the addition of this relatively young but incredibly traditional and yet forward-thinking winery. With vineyards also in the pristine, high-altitude zone of Case Vecie, Brigaldara offers a great range of taut, fresh and vibrant wines. Elegant and powerful some of them built to be enjoyable now (Valpolicella) and be cellared for long time (Amarone).

WHAT OTHERS SAY

“Brigaldara is one of the best wineries of the Valpolicella area. Owned by the Cesari family since 1929, the estate makes some of the purest, more graceful examples of Valpolicella and Amarone (especially) around, providing a welcome alternative to many of the area’s wines that boast much riper mouthfeels, thicker textures, and higher alcohol levels but that when made by lesser lights can be over the top.” (Ian D’Agata)

“The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Case Vecie is darkly alluring and brooding in the glass, with a dusting of confectionary spice and dried violets complementing wild blueberries and a lifting whiff of fresh mint. Soothingly round and surprisingly juicy in feel, this shows its minerality up front, as depths of tart wild berry fruits meet vibrant acidity, and an array of exotic spices emerges toward the close. It finishes tannic yet fresh and incredibly long, leaving a bitter blackberry crunch, violet inner florals and chalky concentration that boggles the mind. Bury the 2018 deep in your cellar, this is a long-distance runner.” 96pts Eric Guido, Vinous

WHAT THEY SAY

Our history began at the end of the Fifties, in the heart of Valpolicella. The passion of Bruno Vaona, founder and soul of the farm, was shared and inherited by the family who still in our days take care of their own vineyards and make wines that truly express the land where they are produced.

WHAT WE SAY

This is a gem of a vineyard – a family run jewel in the middle of an area run by giants. They have inherited a huge tradition in winemaking. Around 2,400 years ago Cassodorus – a minister to a Visigoth king wrote about the special wine made from dried grapes in the area of Valpolicella. Two and a half centuries later the grapes are still carefully selected and left to partially dry on trays over winter to concentrate sugars and flavours to make the velvety, rich red wines.

La Giaretta showcases the whole range of wine from this area with their fantastic wines of superb quality.

WHAT OTHERS SAY

The husband and wife team, wonderfully – though confusingly – called Franseco and Francesca, run the estate located in Valgatara, a small hill town that lies in the heart of the classic Valpolicella region. They produce the lot from the lighter dryer Valpolicella to it sturdier brother Amarone della Valpolicella, which are the two most important red wines in the Veneto, all the way to the sweet Recioto. For several generations, the winery has produced and bottled wine obtained exclusively from grapes grown on the estate including the Valpolicella, the Ripasso and the Amarone. JancisRobinson.com

WHAT THEY SAY

“I define myself as a ‘young traditionalist’. Since 1994, with the supervision of my father “Beppino”, I personally take care of the production: from the choice of which root stock to plant, to when to start the bottling process”. –Alberto Coffele Immediately considered “one of the most promising Veneto winemakers”, Alberto qualified from the prestigious Agricultural Institute of San Michele all’Adige and started his own career in the family business. He was only 30 years old when he proudly received the first major award for his work, the Tre Bicchieri [Three Wineglasses] for the Soave Classico DOC Ca’ Visco 2003, a source of great satisfaction

WHAT WE SAY

An impressive array of wines from the highest vineyards in the Soave Classico zone. The vineyards face south-south-west and there are notable differences between the southern soils (calcareous) and those to the north (basaltic). The former offer to the wines higher acidity, finesse and longevity, while the darker volcanic soils give more body and complexity. These are lively, appealing wines.
